Broken Spring ReplacementPerhaps the single most common phone call we get is regarding a broken spring(s) and the performance problems caused by it. Rest assured that we are experts in spring replacement and can often remove and replace a broken spring(s) the same day the problem is detected.
Garage door torsion springs are rated by cycle life, with 10,000 cycles (a cycle being one opening and one closing action) the industry standard minimum. The average spring breaks in about 7 to 12 years. If a garage door has two or more springs and one breaks, typically all springs should be replaced to maintain proper balance.
It’s possible that a broken spring can go undetected for a period of time; however, it is usually accompanied by an extremely loud “pop” and the ensuing difficulty opening and closing the door. In fact, your garage door opener will probably fail to work and, in fact, should not be used until the spring(s) is replaced.
While most broken springs can be detected by visual inspection (looking at the spring(s) above the door while the door is closed), some doors have springs that are enclosed in a shaft, or tube. Because of the high tension placed on these springs during door installation, any DETAILED inspection and replacement must be performed by a PROFESSIONAL. Adding Decorative Windows or InsulationFrequently, homeowners are inspired to add decorative windows to their garage door(s). Compared to other exterior projects, adding decorative windows is inexpensive and has an immediate impact on curb appeal. Garage door insulation, on the other hand, is an internal, energy and money-saving enhancement. Adding insulation to a non-insulated door also eliminates most of operational noise (rattle) present on hollow, steel doors.
If your door is one of the many brands we carry, we can help. To determine the brand of your door, you can consult the original bid/receipt or simply inspect the door for a sticker, model number or brand indicator. If you have no luck, call us and we’ll help you out. If we are not able to provide you with the brand or product you need, we will direct you to another reputable dealer who can.
